Cedric Smith was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1970 and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a self-taught painter and photographer who draws on a wide range of influences and sources, traditional and contemporary, to express his poignant observations of life in the south.
Much of his current work is devoted to redressing an observation that dogged him as a child – the absence of Blacks in advertising and on the labels of popular brands. His work has been featured at a number of major galleries and prominent art fairs across the continental United States and abroad.
Cedric Smith currently resides and works in the tranquil city of Savannah, Georgia where he has been creating art and broadening his photography for the past 12 years.
